The 2019 summer conference season is now well underway!
This week is a particularly busy one for colleagues who share the research interests of those of us in the Centre for Social Informatics (CSI), with two international events running simultaneously between 16th and 19th June:
- The 10th Evidence Based Library and Information Practice Conference takes place in Glasgow, Scotland (#EBLIP10)
- The Conceptions of Library and Information Science 10th International Conference (#CoLIS10) is hosted in Ljubljana, Slovenia
First, Bruce will deliver a one minute madness introduction to our Royal Society of Edinburgh funded Research Impact Value and Library and Information Science (RIVAL) project to EBLIP10 delegates on Tuesday morning in Glasgow. Then he will present a poster on the project in the official poster session later the same afternoon.
(If you are unfamiliar with the one minute madness presentation format, it’s all explained – with videoed performances – on the Library and Information Science Research Coalition web site.)
Also at EBLIP10 is CSI PhD student Katherine Stephen. Katherine is working as a student volunteer at the conference. She is taking advantage of the opportunity to hear from, and meet, international researchers whose interests align with her own prior to embarking on the PhD component of her ESRC/SDS-funded 1+3 studentship on meta-skills maturity for future workplaces at the start of next academic year (2019/20).
Later this week, on Wednesday afternoon at #CoLIS10, Frances will deliver a paper entitled ‘Build, manage and evaluate: Information practices and personal reputations on social media platforms‘ on behalf of all four of its authors (Frances, myself, Peter Cruickshank, and Alistair Lawson). This work draws on some of the research that Frances completed as part of her doctoral study, for which she will be awarded her PhD at an Edinburgh Napier University graduation ceremony in Edinburgh on 4th July 2019. Frances has blogged a preview of her paper (including the abstract), and the slides which she will deliver on Wednesday 19th June are already available on SlideShare and below.
