A gathering of leaves at the University of Edinburgh

A gathering of leaves display

One of the displays at A gathering of leaves. The exhibition runs until 25th February 2023.

Last Thursday evening I was delighted to attend the opening of a new exhibition in the ground floor gallery of the University of Edinburgh main library.

A gathering of leaves is a showcase of a selection of the book bindings submitted to the Designer bookbinders international bookbinding competition 2022, including the prize winners. The theme of the competition was plants and gardens. This is in response to, and to celebrate, the 400th anniversary of the opening of the Oxford Botanic Garden. The exhibits are absolutely beautiful, and I am very tempted to ask for a copy of the catalogue as a Christmas present.

The event was also an opportunity to catch up with colleagues at the University of Edinburgh, notably Dr Melissa Highton, who had alerted me to it. I also enjoyed chatting with other attendees, including former Director of Library Services Sheila Cannell.

There is free entry to the exhibition until 25 February 2023. It is open Monday to Saturday, between 10:00 and 17:00.
