Edinburgh is a fun place to be in August during the festival season. Amongst all the comedy, theatre, dance, music etc. there are also some more ‘serious’ events, many of which are led by academic experts. As ever, Edinburgh Skeptics is offering an excellent programme of such talks (free of charge), one of which is to be delivered by my colleague Dr Ella Taylor-Smith next Monday 15th August.
Entitled ‘Online and offline spaces for democracy‘ Ella will consider individuals’ activities related to ‘doing democracy’ in electronic and face-to-face environments. She will evaluate the factors that characterise these spaces. Questions related to visibility of these spaces (i.e. whether they are public or hidden), and how these are funded, will also be debated.
I am looking forward to being part of the audience at this event. Should you also be interested in coming along, the talk takes place at the Banshee Labyrinth, 29-35 Niddry Street, EH1 1LG at 19:45 on Monday (although you are advised to come earlier to guarantee a seat).
For further information about Ella’s talk, please see the post on the Edinburgh Skeptics web site.
