Ada Lovelace Day is on Tuesday 8th October this year. Edinburgh Napier University is hosting two events to mark the day: one targeted at young women in the afternoon immediately after school, and the other a public lecture at 17:30 (open to all).
Colleagues in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University are celebrating the date by inviting young women to come to University’s Craiglockhart Campus from 15:30 to 17:00 for Tech Fun. Activities include programming and controlling robots, maps, and wearables. Pizza and ice cream will also be on offer. Registration for Tech Fun on EventBrite is essential. For further information about this event, please contact Dr Ella Taylor-Smith: e.taylor-smith@napier.ac.uk.
Following Tech Fun, at 17:30 participants are invited to join others at Craiglockhart to hear from engineer Sheila Lauchlan. Sheila will ask “What does a modern engineer look like?” and share her career journey to date, including her role as the 154th – and first-ever female – President of the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers. In this session staff from Equate Scotland will also talk about their work in supporting women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Registration for this public lecture (open to all) can be made on EventBrite. (Note – for those coming to both events, two separate registrations should be made: one for Tech Fun, one for A Modern Engineer.)
