Lecturer job vacancy: Creative and Social Informatics group, School of Computing, Edinburgh Napier University

The School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University is currently recruiting. Please pass the message on!

We are seeking to fill a vacancy for a lecturer post (grade 6, £38,183-£46,924, 2-year fixed term). The job is advertised on the University web site (along with the role description for lecturer posts) and jobs.ac.uk as ‘Lecturer in Business Information Systems’, with a deadline for applications of Tuesday 2nd May 2017.

The successful candidate will undertake teaching and research alongside colleagues in the Creative and Social Informatics group within the School of Computing. The Creative and Social Informatics group is one of three focus areas of the School for our research and teaching. (The others are Software Engineering, and Computer Networks and Security.)

The person appointed to the advertised role will be expected to contribute to the research activities of the Centre for Social Informatics (situated within the Creative and Social Informatics focus area).

Our research is concerned with ICT trajectories, socio-technical and organisational issues with particular focus on information seeking behaviour and use, democratic digital engagement, online communities, open data and open government, information policy and knowledge management. It is funded by a number of bodies including the UK research councils (AHRC, EPSRC and ESRC); government (for example, Skills Development Scotland); business; and professional bodies (for example, CILIP).

In REF2014 we contributed to the University’s submission to Unit of Assessment 36. 74% of the research output submitted was judged to be world-leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*). The research environment also attracted a high score of 90% 4* and 3*. Our result puts us in the top quartile nationally for Unit of Assessment 36.

In terms of teaching, we are looking for someone who will contribute to our undergraduate and postgraduate provision, including our new BSc IT Management for Business for Graduate Level Apprentices. We would be particularly interested in hearing from candidates who can bring skills in areas such as: information governance and security; systems analysis; information systems project management; and enterprise systems.
