iDocQ will take place this year in Edinburgh on Thursday 3rd May 2018. Established in 2011, iDocQ is the longest running UK colloquium for doctoral students in Information Science and related subjects.
iDocQ8 will include opportunities for PhD students to:
- share details of their PhD work in progress
- participate in workshop discussions on rising to the challenges of doctoral work – both in terms of the research itself, and as related to life as a PhD student in general
- hear from an internationally-renowned keynote speaker on current research in the field
- pose anonymous questions for members of the expert PhD Supervisor Panel to answer
- network with PhD student peers and academic staff from other Universities across the UK and beyond
The format of the day builds on the success of prior iDocQ events. PhD student participants at iDocQ in the past have said:
- “This was, quite simply, a wonderful day. Thank you so much to everyone. I leave here confident, upbeat and I feel like I am in-the-know – it’s been a while! I’ve had my nerves hit quite a few times during my PhD. It was most welcome, among other things, to hear a research panel speak so frankly about their first-hand experiences and advise doctoral students. I’ll come again next year.”
- “Very well organised for a day with so much packed in. Very happy to have attended. Perfect. Thank you.”
- “The presentations really made me think about my own research in light of the issues that other PhDs are tackling. A welcome eye-opener.”
- “20×20 was a great opportunity to learn a new presentation style. I was so hesitant to do it at first but, after, I’m thankful for the opportunity and would encourage others to give this a go.”
- “I found the research panel very interesting, useful and candid.”
More details of iDocQ8 and registrations will follow after the student members of the full programme committee meet later this month. In the meantime, if you would like to find out more (for example, how to become involved in the planning of iDocQ8 as a member of the student committee), please contact one of the members of the local iDocQ8 team from the Centre for Social Informatics at Edinburgh Napier University:
