Introducing Dr Laura Muir, Dr Gemma Webster, and Dr Tom Kane

Welcome to Dr Laura Muir, Dr Gemma Webster, and Dr Tom Kane, who have all recently joined the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University. I am looking forward to working with them as members of my research group (the Centre for Social Informatics within the Institute for Informatics and Digital Innovation), and as fellow colleagues within the Information Systems teaching group, which is led by Dr Colin Smith.

Dr Laura Muir joins us as an Associate Professor in Information Systems. She was previously a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Information Management at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. Laura’s research is focussed on user-centred design of information systems and services. Laura brings to her new role substantial experience of working with industry on a number of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and consultancy projects.

Dr Gemma Webster previously worked at the University of Aberdeen, where she was a Research Fellow within the dot.rural Digital Economy Research Hub. At Edinburgh Napier University Gemma’s new role is Lecturer in Information Systems. As well as contributing to teaching and research activities, Gemma will also be working on the e-Placement Scotland project. e-Placement Scotland offers paid work placement opportunities for students currently studying computing in universities and colleges across Scotland.

Tom Kane

Dr Tom Kane’s recent teaching experience has been within Stirling University’s School of Management, where he delivered courses on information systems management and project management. Tom’s research interests are related to open source software, online presence, and artificial intelligence. In his new role at Edinburgh Napier University Tom will be teaching modules on project management, and systems analysis and design.
