March 8th 2026 marks a decade since staff in the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh posted the first entry to the Dangerous Women Project web site on International Women’s Day 2016. Over the past ten months or so I have followed with interest the Dangerous Women Project. This is one-year initiative of the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh, led by Professor Jo Shaw. It was launched on International Women’s Day 2016 and will end on International Women’s Day 2017 on Wednesday 8th March with a closing event (free, ticketed) at the Scottish Storytelling Centre. What does it mean to be a ‘dangerous woman’?
This is the question posed by the Dangerous Women Project, a one-year initiative of the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh, led by Professor Jo Shaw. Between International Women’s Day 2016 and International Women’s Day 2017 contributions that respond to the question are being collected and curated on the project web site as a series of daily blog posts.
