The June 2016 issue of Journal of Information Science (volume 42, issue 3) has just been published. This is a special issue of the journal that comprises twelve articles developed from 54 papers presented at the Information: Interactions and Impact (i3) conference held in Aberdeen in June 2015. It’s rare that all the members of the Centre for Social Informatics (CSI) manage to gather together at the same place at the same time. However, we almost managed it last Thursday when we attended the inaugural professorial lecture of our CSI colleague Dr Alistair Duff. Apart from one PhD student and one researcher (who was at a conference in Finland presenting two papers, including one that I co-authored), there was a full turn-out of the academic staff, researchers, and research students of CSI at the event, all eager to hear what Alistair had to say about The information society and its challenges. Two PhD students made special journeys to attend the event from afar: Leo Appleton caught the train up from Liverpool and Nicole Van Deursen flew in from Spain.
On September 19th I wrote that my colleague Dr Jan Auernhammer and I had just learnt that our article “Organizational culture in knowledge creation, creativity and innovation: towards the Freiraum model” had been accepted for publication by the Journal of Information Science. This work considers established concepts from the domain of knowledge and creativity management, and extends these to deepen understanding of how aspects of organizational culture, including leadership and social conditions, influence organizational performance in terms of (a) improving knowledge creation processes related to creativity, and (b) fostering innovation. It is based on a large empirical study conducted within a large German manufacturing firm.
My colleague Dr Jan Auernhammer and I were pleased to learn this week that an article on knowledge management and organisational culture that we submitted to the Journal of Information Science in July has been accepted. The full text of the version accepted for publication is available.
Every two years information science researchers gather in Aberdeen for the i3: information, interactions and impact conference hosted by the Department of Information Management at Robert Gordon University (RGU). The most recent i3 conference was held at the end of last month, running from Tuesday 25th until Friday 28th June.
I co-supervised Jan’s doctoral work which comprised a case study of the autopoietic organisation of knowledge creativity and innovation within a German manufacturing company.
