DISIPRAC reportDigital identity security information practices of citizens (DISIPRAC) is a project led by Peter Cruickshank.

On Thursday 27th February, Peter and our (then) Centre for Social Informatics colleague Dr Frances Ryan (now at Aberdeen University) hosted a workshop on the DISIPRAC project themes. This took place at the Edinburgh Napier University Merchiston campus. Twelve people, all of whom help adults in the community, joined Peter and Frances to discuss three scenarios associated with facilitating access to services provided by UK, Scottish, and local governments. Tackling gender inequality from the classroom to the boardroom: workshop preview

A pirate princess gender stereotype compromise?

  • Why do we continue to see gender stereotyping in education?
  • What is the impact of such gender stereotyping on the labour market?
  • How does gender stereotyping limit career opportunities for individuals?
  • What are the wider impacts of gender stereotyping on society at large?
  • Which approaches work best in achieving sustained change with respect to gender imbalance in educational settings and the workplace?

These questions will be addressed at a half-day workshop on tackling gender inequality, hosted by the Employment Research Institute (ERI) at Edinburgh Napier University from 10:00-13:00 on Tuesday 10th May 2016. Supporting the ‘research-minded’ librarian

EAHIL/ICAHIS/ICLC conference logoThe European Association for Health Information and Libraries (EAHIL) will be holding a workshop in Edinburgh this summer in collaboration with the International Conference of Animal Health Information Specialists (ICAHIS) and the International Clinical Librarian Conference (ICLC). This event forms one of a series of biennial workshops and other related events designed to support healthcare librarians and information professionals in their work.

EPSRC Digital Personhood sandpit week

EPSRC logo Engineering and Physical Science Research Council logoLast week I served as a mentor for the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council in Cheshire at a one-week sandpit event (a form of interactive workshop, and one that appears to have been misunderstood by Private Eye, as can be seen below). My fellow mentors were Professor Richard Harper of Microsoft Research in Cambridge, Professor Bruce Brown of the University of Brighton, and Professor Pete Edwards of the University of Aberdeen. Pete also served as the sandpit director. The aim of the sandpit was to stimulate thinking in promising new areas of the digital economy (DE) research theme.
