Transmedia Literacy International 2018 is currently taking place in Barcelona, Spain. This afternoon at the conference, Centre for Social Informatics PhD student Alicja Pawluczuk presented a paper (co-authored with her supervisors Dr Colin Smith, Dr Gemma Webster and Professor Hazel Hall) on perceptions of social impact held by youth workers, and processes for the evaluation of digital youth projects. Congratulations to Centre for Social Informatics PhD student Alicja Pawluczuk on the acceptance of the paper that she recently submitted to Transmedia Literacy International 2018. This conference takes place in Barcelona, Spain next month between 22nd and 24th March.
The paper, which Alicja co-authored with her PhD supervisors Dr Colin Smith, Dr Gemma Webster and Professor Hazel Hall, is entitled ‘Social impact evaluations of digital youth work: tensions between vision and reality‘. Its content is concerned with the perceptions of social impact held by youth workers, and processes for the evaluation of digital youth projects. The conference programme shows that Alicja will present this work in the ‘Methodologies and interventions’ session on Friday 23rd March between 14:00 and 16:00 Spanish time. Continue reading
The 18th European Conference on Knowledge Management (#ECKM2017) has been taking place in Barcelona this week at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC).
Today Iris Buunk (one of the PhD students in the Centre for Social Informatics) is presenting a co-authored paper at the conference. Entitled ‘Skills in sight: how social media affordances increase network awareness’ this work examines the extent to which social media afford new capabilities in the sharing of tacit knowledge. The 18th European Conference on Knowledge Management (#ECKM2017) takes place this year in Barcelona at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) on 7th and 8th September. ECKM is the longest running academic conference on knowledge management in Europe, attended by academics and practitioners from 40+ countries eager to engage in the packed conference programme.

Many congratulations to Centre for Social Informatics PhD student Iris Buunk on the award of a John Campbell Trust travel bursary.
Iris will use the bursary to support participation at the 18th European Conference on Knowledge Management (ECKM). This conference takes place at Universitat, Internacional de Catalunya (UIC), in Barcelona, Spain from 7th to 8th September 2017.
While she is in Spain Iris also plans to attend the ECKM pre-conference workshop. In addition she will arrange to meet other researchers who share her interests in Knowledge Management at the Institute for Innovation and Knowledge Management (ESADE), and in Library and Information Science at the Faculty of Library and Information Science at the Univesitat de Barcelona. I spent Thursday 4th and Friday 5th June 2015 in Spain as a guest of the Faculty of Library and Information Science at the University of Barcelona. Here I was one of many academics from across the world invited to join the Faculty in the celebrations of its one hundredth anniversary. These were organised around an event billed as the Third International Seminar on Library and Information Science (LIS) Education and Research (LIS-ER).

The main theme of the meeting was education and research in library and information science. The opening keynote presentation was delivered by Dr Blaise Cronin, Emeritus Professor at Indiana University, and Visiting Professor at the Centre for Social Informatics at Edinburgh Napier University. There then followed a series of sessions on: LIS education in Europe; LIS education in America; LIS research in general; LIS academic journals; and research data. There was also an opportunity for those who contributed to a poster display to introduce their work in plenary. In this session the speakers invited delegates to visit an exhibition that displayed work on themes that ranged from open science to beach libraries for summer tourists.

The Third International Seminar on LIS Education and Research (LIS-ER), organised by the Faculty of Library and Information Science at the University of Barcelona, takes place this week on Thursday 4th and Friday 5 June 2015.
The meeting’s theme of education and research in library and information science will be covered in conference presentations, panels, and a poster session. On Friday morning I’m speaking on the theme of challenges in LIS research, drawing on my experience of leading the implementation of the UK Library and Information Science Research Coalition between 2009 and 2012. The Third International Seminar on Education and Research (LIS-ER) is organised this year by the Faculty of Library and Information Science at the University of Barcelona as part of its centenary celebrations. The meeting is supported by the European Association for Library and Information Education and Research (EUCLID) and the Red Universitaria de centros de Información y Documentación (RUID). It takes place 4-5 June 2015 on the University of Barcelona campus.
