One is in Interaction Design, and the other Interactive Audio. The closing date for both vacancies is 5th April. Today Dr Bruce Ryan and I are hosting the second of the four Royal Society of Edinburgh funded Research Impact Value and Library and Information Science (RIVAL) network events. The members of the RIVAL network are meeting in central Edinburgh at St Cecilia’s Hall from 10:00 onwards to discuss the impact and value of library and information science research and – in particular – the ways to maximise this in practice. Colleagues in the Centre for Social Informatics are delighted that Dr David Haynes – currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at City University – will be joining us as a new lecturer in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University in January 2020.

In preparation for his move to Scotland, David has spent the past few days with us in Edinburgh. As part of this visit, on Friday 30th August David delivered a research seminar on the research that he is undertaking for his postdoctoral fellowship. His project concerns the nature of online risk from the perspective of individuals. Continue reading →

Conceptualisations of LIS research impact and value: learning from the LIS Research Coalition and DREaM (#lis_rival)

#lis_rival delegate packsOver the past few days my colleague Dr Bruce Ryan and I have been busy finalising plans for Research Impact Value and LIS (#lis_rival), which takes place at Edinburgh Napier University Cariglockhart campus tomorrow. This work has included making up the delegate badges, filling the delegate packs (with the help of Lyndsey Middleton – thank you!), and confirming the catering arrangements.

I have also made the finishing touches to my own presentation ‘Conceptualisations of LIS research impact and value: learning from the LIS Research Coalition and DREaM (#lis_rival)‘. The slides for my presentation are available on SlideShare and below.
