The full draft programme for the 10th International Evidence Based Library and Information Practice Conference (EBLIP10), which takes place in Glasgow between 17th and 19th June 2019, is now available on the conference web site.

Research Impact and Value in LIS: introducing the RIVAL network
This afternoon I’m speaking at the Edge conference in Edinburgh about a new project, as summarised in the slide below.
We started work on Research Impact and Value and LIS (RIVAL) on 1st February 2019. The Royal Society of Edinburgh has awarded us a grant to create a collaborative network of Scotland-based library and information science (LIS) researchers and library and information professionals interested in maximising the value of LIS research. This work builds on the pilot RIVAL event that we hosted at Edinburgh Napier University on 11th July last year. Continue reading

#EBLIP10 submission deadline date extended to 10th December 2018
There is still time to make a submission to the 10th International Evidence Based Library and Information Practice Conference – EBLIP10. This event takes place next year between 17th and 19th June 2019 (with pre-conference workshops on 15th and 16th June) in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. The revised deadline for 350 word paper and poster proposals is now Monday 10th December 2018.
Submissions for papers and posters that fit with the broad theme of ‘Using evidence in times of uncertainty’ are invited via EasyChair.
Following double blind peer review by the members of the International Programme Committee, accepted papers will be delivered at the conference as 20 minute oral presentations, and poster participants will be invited to participate in a ‘Poster madness’ session (one of the highlights of EBLIP9). Lyndsey Middleton represents the Centre for Social Informatics at #ASIST2018
The Annual Meeting of the Association for Information Science and Technology 2018 (ASIST 2018) takes place this week in Vancouver, Canada. Representing the Centre for Social Informatics at the conference is PhD student Lyndsey Middleton. Lyndsey took part in the conference doctoral colloquium on Sunday, and tomorrow (Tuesday) at 10:30 Vancouver time (18:30 in the UK) she will be presenting a full paper as a contribution to the main conference programme. Congratulations Dr John Mowbray!
Congratulations to Dr John Mowbray, who was awarded his PhD at the Edinburgh Napier University graduation ceremony at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh yesterday. I was John’s Director of Studies, his second supervisor was Professor Robert Raeside, and third supervisor Pete Robertson.
John’s PhD was funded by an ESRC Skills Development Scotland Collaborative studentship. We won the grant for the award through a competitive process administered by the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science in spring 2014, and John came to us later in the October of that year having applied for the PhD studentship that we advertised in June 2014. Ada Lovelace Day 2018 at Edinburgh Napier University #ALD18
Each year on the second Tuesday of October we mark Ada Lovelace Day at Edinburgh Napier University as part of the worldwide celebration of women in science, technology, engineering and maths. The purpose of this activity is to showcase role models who will encourage more girls into careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), and to support women who are already working in STEM.
